Sea of Light

Carolyn

The candle flame flickers, wavering slightly
But it stays lit.

It stands tall in the face of the overwhelming
darkness before it.

The flame flickers, but does not die.
Then that candle becomes two, and the two three,
and the flame spreads.

But it is not a fire like a forest-fire.
It is warm, nourishing, comforting.
It is a fire like the sun, like the hearth-fire.
This flame gives life, it doesn't take it.

These few candles grow, and become a sea of light.
Some flicker, some die, but when one dies,
Two replace it, and that one candle is never forgot,
No matter how many may join the sea of light.

The sea shall grow, never diminishing.
Keeping the dream alive, and real.
