Challenge Vignette
Lara Hoyle
Devin was reading a freshly bought copy of the Village Voice when he noticed what date it was. One of the Helpers he knew, sold it to him, and had sneaked in an extra addition to the paper. When it fell, he noticed and picked it up.
"Well, well what have we here?" he mused as he opened the envelope to reveal a letter from Father. Devin read the letter, and shoved it into a coat pocket. In the letter there were some 'Wishes for Jacob's Christmas.' The boy was a whippersnapper, according to his Grandpa, and had wished for roller blades for Christmas.
Devin walked down Shubert Alley, stopped in a small health food store and bought some Sunflower seeds. He ate some and cracked some for some of the hungry birds that fluttered down looking at the shells he was leaving behind. He also went into a sports store and bought two pairs of rollerblades and helmets and padding for two people. He was gonna play "Proud Uncle" and teach the boy to roller skate himself.
